Hello out there and welcome! My name is Caitlin and I’m the ‘Magpie’ of ‘HookedMagpie’. As a lifelong collector and maker of shiny things, I strive to spread joy to others through my passion for yarn craft.
After losing my father to a sudden–and tumultuous–fight against lung cancer, I decided in earnest to pursue my passion as a means of self-healing via gifting to others. This was inspired by when I would bring my projects to my father’s hospital and work on them in the waiting room and gifting them to the nurses or others in similar situations to mine. As someone who struggles a lot with social anxiety, it was like a cheat code to make personal connections with strangers. It gave me something I was excited about and brightened other’s days. Win-win!
I can’t count how many times I have been crocheting or spinning fiber in public and people have commented ‘I wish I could do that!’ or ‘I have a grandmother that does that! I always thought it was so cool!’ Every time I’d say, ‘Let me teach you!’. This is my effort to teach beyond the one-on-ones. I’ll share everything I learned with enthusiasm because I truly believe that joy and peace can be found in the creation of things.
Crocheting might not be your cup of tea, but no worries! I’m a habitual omni-crafter and I bet I can find something that you’ll be excited to make.
We aren’t perfect at first, but with enough determination and practice, you can find a way to make it work.
